The Town of Fishkill Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency providing patrol and emergency response services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Front-line operations are supported by a well-staffed Detective Division, Traffic Unit, and Community Policing Team, providing the Town with comprehensive police service since 1971.
Â
The Department serves a population of nearly 25,000 residents across 32 square miles which stretch from SplashDown Beach to the north, the Sharpe Reservation to the east, Breakneck Ridge at the Putnam County line to the south and all the way west to the midpoint of the Hudson River bordering Newburgh.
What makes the Department unique is its staffing model: every sworn member of the Town of Fishkill Police Department, from Police Officer through Chief of Police, serves on a part-time basis. Despite that distinction, the Department provides the same level of police services expected of a traditional municipal police agency with full-time officers.
Â
This staffing model provides a significant financial benefit to the community. By maintaining an entirely part-time sworn workforce, the Town is able to provide full service police protection at a substantially lower personnel cost than a comparably sized jurisdictcion staffed with full-time officers. It is a model that allows the Town to provide a high level of police service while remaining mindful of the taxpayers who fund it.
